Music

From a young age, I showed exceptional talent in music, attending specialized arts middle and high schools. I also majored in Korean traditional music composition at university. However, after graduating, I decided to become a researcher in the psychology field, which led me to step away from a career as a musician. However, music remains my most powerful creative outlet.

When I feel stressed from studying or research, I play the piano or the Korean traditional instrument, the Gayageum. I particularly enjoy arranging my favorite music into Korean traditional versions.

The first video is about my arrangement of Queen’s “Bohemian Rhapsody.”

Additionally, I enjoy not only playing instruments but also recording sounds and applying various effects through MIDI programs to create my own music. The second video is my Korean traditional version of BTS’s “Black Swan.” This arrangement includes sounds from the bass guitar and drums. I love creating fusion music by combining Eastern and Western musical instruments, fully expressing my creativity as I decide how to blend different tones!

Lastly, I have composed many scholarly and experimental pieces using traditional Korean instruments. I developed various innovative playing techniques, such as striking the instrument’s body with a stick or hitting it with my palm like percussions, rather than the traditional plucking methods. This innovation led to the honor of winning a major music competition hosted by a national institution. The third video features my experimental music with dance performed at the opening of the University Korean Music Festival.
