I like objects related to music. Wood carving can make the only thing in the world as I want, so I decided to make my first spoon into a musical note shape. The type of wood in this spoon is walnut, and I think it’s prettier because it has both bright and dark colors.
This is the size when I hold it with my hand. I wanted to express the shape of the music note better, so I made the bottom of the spoon into a complete circle.
At first, I sketched a musical note on the wood and my teacher cut the wood like the picture on the left. Then I dug the round part of the spoon and made it like the picture on the right.
Actually, this spoon was too difficult for anyone who encountered wood carving for the first time to make it. Because the top of the spoon is designed in three dimensions, not in a plane.
Therefore, it took me three weeks to make this spoon. But making such a difficult work from the beginning made me get used to carving wood faster.
